I'm experimenting on http://free.naplesplus.us/ - Not only hCard but now I have figured out how to link back to the source. Example: http://free.naplesplus.us/…recreation links back to: http://sunbiz.org/…icidet.exe as the source. I also pick and choose which businesses to map. I think this will be very helpful to the businesses listed.

naplesplus feeds were going to too many places.

Wow. I'm starting to see that my naplesplus feeds were going to TOO many places. They were auto-delicious'd, auto-fave'd, and on websites I had long ago forgotten that I had joined. So I am going to step back a moment and regain a sense of control.



Google does not like the autoposting stuff, and I can't blame them - what a mess it is. So, if an entry is good, they'll take it. If not, they probably won't. Either way, I don't want to lose what I've gained so far. If I find that new postings end up in never-never-land, well, then I'll just have to try to put things BACK as they were as of yesterday. But I trust Google will do the right thing (I hope). I'll know within a couple of days. I just want Google to keep liking me :-)

Events now showing ONLY Collier County FL. What

March 24, 2009: Wow to me! I figured out how to show ONLY Collier County events on the calendar. You think that'd be easy, right? It's not! GEOCODING street addresses is SUCH at its infancy right now.



When I put together the events feeds (which come from a dozen different, convoluted places and ways and methods that I'm afraid to get into right now), I often will get stuff from Estero, Ft Myers, Bonita Springs, etc as well. While it'd be okay if there were a map that had those things on it, I'm really trying to focus hard on Collier County FL as much as possible, rather than trying to be everything for everybody.



So, after getting the latitude and longitude of the various events (again, you don't wanna know what a house of cards it is that it works at ALL), THEN I had to selectly CUT OUT areas that don't belong.



THANKFULLY, due to two wonderful facts, I could do what I ended up doing:



Fact #1: Collier County is so far south, I don't have to worry about anything south of collier accidentally showing up.



Fact #2: The SHAPE of collier county! Ever look at it? There's two beautiful rectangles that I can work with.



So, I ended up:



a) cutting out anything north + east of the northeasternest corner of collier county b) then cutting out anything north and east of the inside corner of the first rectangle (working from east to west c) then cutting out anything north and east of the other inside corner of the next rectangle.



Long story short, what's left behind is ONLY Collier County!



Without the wonderful shape of C.C., this would not have worked. But it does! The hardest part really, was finding out what the longitude and latitude was of those exact points where Lee + Collier connect.



Had to use a federal government mapping thing called TIGER. Wonderful thing.



Hope it helps you find things to do 'round here every day!



(p.s. - I would have kept bonita, estero, cape coral, etc, but there are just TOO MANY THINGS going on in our county to show everything in swfla.)

Take care when registering your business with the state of Florida!

Florida is a great state to run a business in. The process is very easy to register a fictitious name, an LLC, to incorporate, whatever you wish.

But be careful: Florida has something called the "Sunshine Law" and just about every dealing with the State *is* public record and easily found on the Internet.

So when you register your business, PLEASE make sure that you use a business address and not your home address, if you want to retain your sense of privacy.

In the world of 2009 and beyond, as it has been the case for the past few years but now increasingly so, a sense of privacy is a difficult thing to maintain, and it takes an awful lot of careful work.

This is especially true if you have concerns about ex-boyfriends / ex-girlfriends / ex-husbands and ex-wives!

Most information is increasingly public, your name, address, social security number even. And for most people that information being found is not a problem, because its unlikely that anybody is looking for you for unscrupulous or dangerous reasons.

But if you have even the least bit of concern about such things, take care when you register a business, especially if you incorporate, but even if you are simply registering a fictitious name so that you can get a business bank account and a Tax-ID number.

Florida is a state that is VERY MUCH an ONLINE STATE. It is a great thing for those of us who hunger for information but it is a tricky thing for those who wish to protect their privacy.

Best of luck to you and I encourage you to start your own business if you have any kind of skill that you can bring out to the world! Start it part time while you still have a day job. Don't be afraid to advertise and market to your heart's content. You have to get OUT THERE when you run a business and be as visible as possible in order to attract new clients.

But if you wish to start a business and ALSO retain your personal sense of privacy, you have a road ahead of you that must be tread with care.

Added a Twitter Feed for Collier County FL on main page of http://free.naplesplus.us/ -- it shows the public twitters of people who tweet within a 35 mile radius of Picayune Strand State Forest -- which, as best as I could figure out, is the center of Collier County, and 35 miles out from that point captures everything without also grabbing Bonita Springs or Hendry County (I'm trying to keep it local without excluding ANYBODY twittering in Collier). It'll take some more testing, but I think it works great and it's pretty neat! I think it'll turn some of our local twitterers into local celebs! -Ken

This page is a starting point to help collect information about the Red Hat Societies in Naples FL and the surrounding areas. Lots of women want to join it, but have a hard time finding information. Hopefully my little contribution along with others adding information to the page will help women find their local Red Hat Society group, go out, and have fun in the purple dresses and the red hats! Talking with Author Milo Wolff, WSM

Milo Wolff has published on the Spherical Standing Wave Structure of Matter (WSM), a concept that returns the Universe to an understandable concept: that all matter is made up of waves and that particles at the smallest quantum level are not particles at all, but are spherical standing waves. It is also a holistic theory, that space isn't empty space at all, that all matter/energy is interconnected (something that we intuitively know and he shows it to be true) and explains some of the apparent paradoxes in modern quantum physics are not paradoxes at all - they are explainable as WAVES.

He has published: Schroedinger's Universe and the Origin of the Natural Laws and Exploring the Physics of the Unknown Universe: An Adventurers Guide.



I think he's onto something very big, for if it can be proven to fully explain physics at least as well as the current Standard Model but ALSO explain gravity, weak force, strong force and the electromagnetic force (which it does -- they are simply properties of different waves and NOT mysterious forces at all), it will cause a great upheaval in physics, not so much proving a lot of scientists wrong, but rather proving that they just didn't dig deeply enough.

Keep it clean. Keep it all clean. Let not a wind

Cleanliness of a neighborhood is a sign of economic stability and prosperity and pride.







Keep the hedges trimmed. Put fresh mulch by the flowers. Bathrooms should smell nice and fresh. Sidewalks should be free of mold (especially black mold) and stains. Streets shouldn't have oil drips on it.







This holds true for homes and it also holds true for businesses, as it also holds true for the entire community.







Collier County FL is a very clean community. From Vanderbilt Beach to Golden Gate Estates, 95% of Collier County is very clean and fresh. Every area has its exceptions, but they only serve to prove the rule! Even in its ugliest parts, Naples FL is more beautiful than many other places in the USA.







There's something that happens to a community when a little bit of overlooked unkeptness rapidly grows to overtake the community. It's called the "Broken Window Syndrome". I mention a little bit about it here: http://free.naplesplus.us/…ken-window and http://free.naplesplus.us/…-explained







The gist of it is this:



Perhaps in a foreclosed (abandoned!) home, a window is broken.







Nobody pays any attention to the broken window.



Yet people drive by, walk by, every day. Kids play around there.







And the grass grows taller and the window stays broken. Bored kids break in through the broken window to see what they can see. Perhaps a homeless person crawls in to make a home. But that's not the main problem.







Before you know it another window is broken elsewhere. Nobody notices.



Then another.



Then a fence is broken. A sidewalk is cracked. Nobody pays it any mind.



Before you know it, there is graffitti. Property values plummet. Places are no longer selling, so they go for rent. But nobody is renting houses. So house is split up into rooms. One house has rooms for rent. Then another, then another.



Within a very short time (just a few years at most), the character of the neighborhood has changed.



All starting from a broken window that nobody paid any attention to.

The first time I heard about Broken Window Syndrome was when I was looking into something called "self-organizing systems" ( it's related to chaos theory and complexity theory - I'm a science nut).







The short version of it is how a very small, seemingly insignificant thing is more powerful than it appears at first.







A rumor starts and spreads like wildfire until it culminates in someone getting fired from a job.



A few words spoken by a VP candidate ends up becoming fodder for Saturday Night Live and is all over the Internet and the news and spawns article after article.



A fear about a Depression spirals out of control and ends up CAUSING the very thing it feared!



This can also apply to good things. The whole "Pay-it-Forward" movement is based on that idea, as is the simple effect of making yourself say, "Good morning" to everybody in the office (whether you like them or not) - Good Will, while slower to move than Ill Will, is very powerful stuff.
